Bangbao Fisherman's Village.

Bangbao is a quaint fishing village situated on the southern tip of the Island. Most locals make their living from the sea or from tourism. The heart of the village is the pier which consists mostly of souvenier shops and restaurants which are well known for the fantastic seafood they offer at very reasonable prices. The pier is made up of many buildings built on stilts all interconnected to the central walkway which leads to a picture perfect lighthouse where the boats are moored. The pier is a tourist attraction in itself and well worth a visit. There are many locally produced products available from shops on the pier as well as the usual trinkets and gifts available all over Thailand.

About one kilometer past Bangbao village is Klong Koi beach which offers a clean sandy beach with clear water where it is possible to top up your tan or take a dip. A few beach bar type places have been developed here, and it is definitely worth a visit. Klong Koi beach is about a 10 min walk from the village of Bangbao.

Cliff Cottage resort has fantastic views of the pier and is a short walk away from the village.

GETTING HERE.

When arriving on Koh Chang by ferry take a taxi to Bang Bao. On arrival at Bang Bao, Cliff Cottage is located approximately 8 minutes walk from the pier. Walk towards the pier and just past the Dive Adventure shop turn right, follow the path for about 8 minutes. You will find Bang Bao Cliff Cottage off the road to the right in the private bay. Our next door resort is called Cliff View. We are 100 metres after them.

Please ask your taxi driver to bring you directly to our resort. Most will. We might be able to collect you from the village subject to availabilty of our transport. Please call us from the 7/11 shop.

Buses

The easiest way to get a bus from Bangkok to Koh Chang is from Ekkamai Bus Station to the ferry piers at Laem Ngop or to Trat. Ticket prices are around 280 Baht per person. The name of the port where the ferry departs for Koh Chang is Laem Ngop, but the nearest city where some buses go to is Trat, and you then have to get a smaller pic up type minibus to the port. Sometimes the buses going to Trat will drop you off about 20 kms before Trat where you will transfer to a smaller minibus which will take you to the pier. There will be a small charge for this, but you would have had to pay for the transfer from Trat anyway, so it is no big deal, but will save you time.

The buses from Bangkok have spaces on them nearly everyday except Thai holidays so you can just turn up. The transfer from Bangkok to the ferry takes around 4 hours.

Airport Bus

  The departure from Suvarnabhumi Airport Transportation Terminal is at 07:30am, ticket price is 308 Baht including ferry ticket.  Leaving from Koh Chang to the airport the bus departs from Klong Son at 13.30pm. Their office is easy to find on the main road in Klong Son. Don't worry about not being able to get tickets because on the few occasions this bus has been full, the operators send a minibus behind it. Best to get to their office 30 mins before departure.

Last Ferry is at 7pm

Ferry across to Koh Chang run every 40 minutes until 7pm

Planes.

Bangkok airways own and operate Trat airport, and as such they maintain a monopoly over the prices of flights. Expect to pay around 2000baht one way to or from Bangkok. Trat airport is about 15mins from the ferry pier at Laem Ngop and is a great way for people to get to Koh Chang if they don't like road travel. The flight takes less than 40mins from Bangkok. Below I have listed the airlines timetable. Transport from the airport to the ferry pier is readily available as are direct minibus transfers to Koh Chang.
